Painting Classes 2026

8 week courses $96.00

Adult day and evening classes are run by three tutors and cater for anyone, beginner to the more experienced painter. Members can use any medium of choice including drawing, watercolour, oils, water-based oils, acrylic or mixed media. The tutor is a ‘mentor’ and moves around the class from member to member and helps painters work at their own pace. These informal classes are not structured lessons, and members are encouraged to learn from one another as well as the tutor.

Classes are run over 4 terms a year (8 weeks each) – between S.A. school holidays and cost $96/term. Class fees are payable before the term starts. Those enrolled in classes are asked to let the tutor know if they will NOT be returning the following term so that others can be offered a place. Please bring your own materials and a towel or drop cloth to protect the bench work on. Due to limited space, all work needs to be taken home at the end of the class. Desks and standing easels are available in the painting studio, tables to work on and stools or chairs to sit on. All solvents used MUST be odourless and no paint or solvent is disposed down the sink. Members are asked to safely dispose of paint and solvents at home.

Yes, the classes cater for all levels from beginners to advanced students. The tutor is a “mentor” and moves around the class to help students at their own pace. We do not provide “structured” lessons.

The studio has no storage space and all work and materials must be taken home at the end of each class.

      • Be considerate of others sharing the studio.
      • No bags, toolkits on the floor in walkways. This is an Occupational Health and Safety issue – closed footwear must also be worn.
      • Clean up after yourself. This includes tables, wheels, floor, sink area etc.
      • Allow clean up time at end of class.
      • Return all equipment, glazes, under glazes back into tutor cupboard.

Return all equipment, easels, chairs etc back into storage spaces.

Members can attend open studio sessions for a small fee of $5 (subject to change depending on running costs). These sessions give members access to use club facilities, as well as an opportunity to come together to share ideas. Attendance at a ceramic open studio must be pre-booked with the Pottery Director. We encourage newcomers to join a class first to become familiar with our procedures.

We prefer all those who enter our building to be up to date with their Covid vaccinations and please do not enter the building if you have cold or flu symptoms, diarrhoea, any other Covid symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has. Wearing a mask is also strongly encouraged.

Email ceramics@hagas.com.au with the class time/s you are able to attend (you must attend the same class each week). If there is a place available in your requested class time you will be added to the class, if the class is full we will add you to our waitlist. Please be aware current students get first opportunity to re-enrol in classes, and with our waitlist being quite large, we cannot guarantee places becoming available. Once on our waitlist, we will contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely there will be more than 2 spots available in one class at a given time; a lot of students do continue and class numbers are limited because of equipment restrictions. If you have a group larger than 6 our Ceramics Director may be able to organise a workshop outside of term time for your group instead. If you have a group interested in participating in a workshop, please email us at ceramics@hagas.com.au for availability.

HAGAS members can exhibit and sell their work in the Gallery with 20% commission payable to the club on sales. Exhibiting members must be prepared to “sit” the Gallery and manage sales. We run 3 main shows each year for Mother’s Day, SALA and a Members Show towards the end of the year.
